I was born and raised in Shelby, Michigan, graduating high school in 1981. I earned a B.A. in English Language and Literature from Lake Superior State University, then worked at the local paper as a reporter/photographer for a year and a half. Later I returned to school to earn my teaching license and special education certification. For 12 years I worked as a high school resource teacher before making the move to the elementary level in 2004. Now I teach in the same rural elementary school I attended as a child.
I have been married for ten years to Beth, and we have two beautiful daughters.
Family and career keep me busy, but when I have the time I enjoy reading, chess, and martial arts. I also play the guitar (poorly) and golf (even worse).
